Sept. 10, 2024—Are you tired of simplistic glosses on American history, where our ancestors are portrayed as either all courageous heroes, or all fatally flawed and corrupt? Would you prefer history to historical fiction? Are you eager to discuss the complexities and the fights over ideas that actually shaped our world today?
If so, then I have two events for you. This invitation is admittedly at short notice, but I hope some of you will be able to take advantage of it.
This Friday, September 13 – yes, only three days from now – I will be giving a book lecture and signing on my book Defeating Slavery: Hamilton’s American System Showed the Way at Long Island University’s Lorber Hall on the LIU Post Campus. The event begins at 12:30 and will go to 2:30. This is a paid event ($33), but, as I understand it, registration is still possible up to the very last minute. To register, call 516-299-2580. LIU Post is at 720 Northern Boulevard in Brookville, Long Island.
The good news about this event is that it will allow us to meet in person, and you can buy a book from me, at a discounted rate.
The second event will occur on at 7 PM on September 18, next Wednesday, by zoom. I will be discussing Defeating Slavery at the virtual book club of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society. This event is free, but registration is required. To register, click here.
The AHA Society is the “go-to” organization for deep, factual background on Alexander Hamilton. It was founded by the late Rand Scholet in 2011, and is now headed by his daughter Nicole Scholet. The Society is the official partner of Hamilton’s home in northern Manhattan, the Grange, and holds annual commemorative events around the time of his birth and his death.
