We are sorry to inform you that Nancy Spannaus, the founder of the American System Now blog, passed away on Friday, January 16, at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Virginia. As many of you know, she had been battling a rare and virulent form of cancer for nearly two years. Over the past few weeks, it got to the point where all efforts to fight it were overwhelmed.
Even after she received the diagnosis of an incurable form of cancer, and despite often being in pain and discomfort, she persisted in completing and publishing her last book, From Subject to Citizen, as well as maintaining a schedule of public events to promote her books – and more importantly, to promote the ideas which inspired those books.
Nancy’s husband Edward, a sometime contributor to this blog, and their son Andrew, are in discussion with friends and colleagues to determine how best to continue Nancy’s work.
We will be posting a full obituary within a few days, as well as an announcement about the future of this blog.
