In the aftermath of the passing of American System Now founder Nancy Spannaus, many tributes have been offered to Nancy, her commitment to the nation, and her impact.
Below are some highlights:
The Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society of which Nancy was an active member, opened its previously-scheduled program on January 22, with a tribute to Nancy. Nicole Scholet, the Society’s President, announced that Nancy has passed away a few days earlier “Through her writings, scholarship, and unwavering commitment to history and Hamilton, she left she left a real mark on all of us and on the history field.” Ms. Scholet said that the AHA Society will be holding a special tribute to her over the coming weeks. “So I do hope that you will join us to honor both the wonderful talks that she gave, and the wonderful person that she was.” The video of the January 22 program is here.

Bach in Baltimore: Now in its 38th season, the monthly “Bach in Baltimore” concert on February 1, 2026, held at First Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ellicott City, was dedicated to Nancy.
A statement at the top of the printed program read:
In Memoriam:
“Bach in Baltimore” would like to celebrate the life of Nancy Spannaus, Dec. 13, 1943 – Jan. 16, 2026. Nancy and Ed, her husband of more than 50 years, have been long-time friends and patrons of “Bach in Baltimore.”
The concert dedication was also announced by Music Director T. Herbert Dimmock. The program featured J.S. Bach’s Cantata BWV 140, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (“Sleepers Awake, the Watchman Calleth”). As Ed Spannaus, Nancy’s husband, told Maestro Dimmock after the concert, this was especially meaningful, because Wachet auf was the first cantata that he and Nancy sang together when they joined what became the Schiller Institute Chorus around 1980.

Resolution of Respect
In Loving Memory of
Sister Nancy Bradeen Spannaus
(Sunrise: 13 December 1943 ~ Sunset: 16 January 2026)
Though your days among us were far too short, and our separation from you is filled with sadness as you ascend from us. We rejoice with resounding joy that you are now with our ancestors and the Father in Heaven. We draw comfort from the knowledge that you have received your heavenly crown and robe and, also found safe and eternal refuge in the Lord and in our hearts, where no darkness or pain can ever touch you now. We bless you with love, light, and gratitude to the Holy Ghost.
Whereas, in the providence of almighty God, He has brought to a close the mortal life of our beloved Sister Nancy Bradeen Spannaus; the officers and members of Sgt. Lawrence Everhart Chapter, Frederick, MD, and in the loving name of Jesus the Christ, prayerfully find it befitting to express our support and prayers to the family during the home-going of our beloved Sister Nancy Bradeen Spannaus. We commend you to Him who knoweth best and will always do right. You have our sincere prayers.
Now therefore, be it resolved that we bow in humble submission to Him who never makes a mistake and remind the family to be encouraged by remembering this poem.
When I must leave you for a little while, please do not grieve and shed wild tears and hug your sorrow to you through the years. But start out bravely with a gallant smile; and for my sake and in my name Live on and do all things the same, feed not your loneliness on empty days, but fill each waking hour in useful ways, reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near, and never be afraid, for I am now watching over you.
~Author Unknown~
Therefore, be it further resolved, that we bow to a greater Will than our own and rest in the knowledge that one day we will be reunited with our beloved Sister Nancy Bradeen Spannaus, again, in joy and in the fullness of God’s tender mercy.
Respectfully Submitted on 27 January 2026,
Michael B. Moore
President,
Sgt. Lawrence Everhart Chapter
Sons of the American Revolution

Additionally, at a meeting of the Col. James Wood II Chapter of the Virginia Society of the SAR, held in Winchester VA on January 24, Dale Corey, a Past President of the Chapter, had promised Ed that he would lead a singing of “God Bless America” as a tribute to Nancy. Dale recalled that Nancy and Ed often would ask him to lead singing at SAR grave-markings and other events. After the meeting, Dale informed Ed that they had over 40 attending the Chapter meeting, including state and national SAR officers, and representatives of Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and Children of the American Revolution (CAR). “When I announced I would be leading `God Bless America’ in honor of Nancy’s memory, they all stood and sang at the top of their lungs,” Corey reported to Ed, adding, “Truly a wonderful event.”
